The red handrail top left balances this out wonderfully (assisted by the orange at the bottom of the left hand escalator) and stops it being like a clip from an advert.
Given the vantage point of the photographer I can’t help but want more height in this. I get the feeling when viewing this of slightly leaning over. A greater height to fall would perhaps make it more powerful. It does have a great sense of expectation about it though. All quite serene and quiet. I’d say that’s why I want more danger in it!
Akikana – I would certainly like to see how this would have worked out if we had both been higher up the down escalator, although, as far as I can remember, this one at Tower Hill is not that deep and it took a few nanoseconds for me to hoist in the opportunity. But “all quite serene and quiet” is, to a certain extent (colour, light etc all played a part), what makes this an oddity compared with the usual jamboree. I do like to put a slight skew on this sort of shot.
Colin – thanks for the observation about the series.
You do have a way with red. That coat and hair together seem a dangerous enough combination for me without more height! Balanced, as Colin said, by the handrail — it all works beautifully for me. I like the row of frames on the wall.

Red, indeed. That curve in the part is fascinating.

Great light, shadows and surfaces.
It is quite a London collection you have made.

A lovely splash of colour and given the location a simple composition.
